Duetotheincreasingamountofgreenhousegasesandthemarketcompetition,thegreenenergytypescameintoconsiderationinthelastdecades.Amongtherenewableenergytypes,thewindenergydevelopsthemostdynamicallycl].Anewtrendinthewindenergyindustryistheoff-shorewindturbinefarms,whenwindturbinesarelinkedtoeachothertomaximizetheefficiency.Compositesofwindturbinestructuresmustresistdifferentenvironmentaleffects(temperature,UVlight,especiallyatoff-shoreturbinessaltwaterageing).Anewmaterialwhichissuitableasareinforcementofcompositesisthebasaltfiberc2].Inviewofmechanicalpropertiesandchemicalstructure,basaltfiberissimilartothefiberglass,howeverbasaltfiberresistsheatandcorrosionbetterthanglassfiber.Theaimofthisstudywastheinvestigationofmechanicalpropertiesofbasaltfiberreinforcedcompositeswithepoxyresinmatrix.Mechanicalpropertieswasdeterminedbytensile,flexuralandCharpytests.SEMmicrographsweretakenofthefracturesurfaceofspecimenstoinvestigatethefiber-matrixinterfacialadhesion.Theresultsshowthesaltwaterhasahighinfluenceonmechanicalproperties.Saltwatercausesageingofcomposites.Accordingtotheresultsofdifferentmechanicaltests,theeffectoftemperaturewasproven.
