Inrecentyears,polymer/inorganicnanocompositeshavereceivedmuchattentionduetotheiruniquestructure,excellentpropertiesandvariousapplications.cl]Here,weintroducetherecentworkofsyndiotacticpolystyrene(sPS)/multi-walledcarbonnanotube(MWCNT)compositesinourresearchgroup.First,aneffectivedispersingsolventofN-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone(NMP)wasemployedinthepreparationofsPS/MWCNTcomposites.Thecrystallizationbehaviorsandthepropertiesofthecompositeswerestudiedaswell.TheresultsshowthattheMWCNTsincreasedthesPScrystallizationtemperature,broadenedthecrystallitesizedistributionandfavoredtheformationofthermodynamicallystable(3crystals.Additionally,thesPS/MWCNTcompositesexhibiteddramaticallyincreaseelectricalconductivityandthermalstabilityrelativetotheneatsPSduetothewelldispersionofMWCNTsinthepolymermatrixE21.Later,westudiedtheorientationstructuresoftheunaxiallyhot-drawnsPS/MWCNTnanocompositefilms.TheinfrareddichroismstudiesshowedthattheMWCNTshadanobvioushindranceeffectonthepreferredparallelorientationforboththemainchain(-CH2-segments)andthesidegroups(benzenerings)ofthesPS.Alternatively,theresultsofpolarizedRamanspectroscopydemonstratedthepreferredparallelorientationoftheMWCNTsparalleledtotheuniaxialstretchingdirectioninthestretchedfilmsc3,4].Subsequently,weobservedcomplexflower-likepatternsforthehot-pressedsPS/MWCNTcompositefilmsc5].Veryrecently,anin-situFTIRspectroscopicmethodbasedoncurefittingwasemployedtostudythemesomorphicbehaviorinthesPS/MWCNTnanocompositefilms.
